The Effectiveness of Coping Cat Training Program on Decreasing Anxiety Symptoms and Increasing Cognitive-Emotion Disorder and Resilience of Children Aged 7-12 Years Old Referred to Dentistry: Single Subject

Aims: Due to the increasing number of pediatric dental clients, and the costly and frightening use of healing methods, therefore, psychological methods are needed to treat pediatric dental anxiety. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of education based on The coping cat program is aimed at reducing anxiety symptoms and increasing emotional cognitive regulation and resilience of children aged 7 to 12 years old in Mashhad, who referred to the dental clinic in May 2017. Materials and Methods: In this study, a case study design with multiple baseline and one-month follow-up was used. The research sample consisted of four people, who were selected by purposive sampling. Subjects received 16 sessions of therapy (2 sessions per week) training based on the coping cat program. The Emotional Cognitive Regulation-Children Questionnaire and Spence Children Anxiety and Child and Adolescent Resilience Questionnaire and Leibenberg (2009) were used. For data analysis, graphical analysis method and determination of recovery percentage were used. The data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS-21 software. Results: Anxiety scores in pre-test and post-test in the first child from 62 to 44 with recovery rate (0.29), in the second child from 57 to 37 with recovery rate (0.35) and in the third child from 48 to 35 with Recovery rate (0.27) and in the fourth child decreased from 55 to 25 with recovery rate (0.54). Resilience scores in pre-test and post-test in the first child from 52 to 75 with recovery rate (0.44), in the second child from 43 to 66 with recovery rate (0.53) and in the third child from 58 to 74 with recovery rate (0.27) and in the fourth child increased from 64 to 89 with recovery rate (0.39). Emotional regulation components also improved significantly in children. Conclusion: The present study showed that training based on "Coping cat" method has been effective in reducing anxiety symptoms, increasing emotional cognitive regulation and resilience of children aged 7 to 12 years referred to dentistry and this method can be used to reduce anxiety symptoms and increase Use emotional cognitive regulation and resilience.
